Auditory Therapy and Rehabilitation
Research has shown that diagnosis or prescription of hearing aids alone cannot fully help an individual to restore speech understanding in difficult listening situations. There are many programs and protocols that can be used to help the individual maximize his or her speech understanding.
We are trained to deliver the "Fast Forword" program to children. The computerized program takes several weeks to complete; we monitor the entire delivery of the program. We recommend that this program be done over the summer.
We use several other computerized programs in therapeutic intervention including "Earobics" and "Soundsmart".
There are many programs for helping listening in noise and listening to multiple conversations. A program from the University of California at San Francisco called "Listening and Communication Enhancement (LACE)" has been shown to improve speech understanding in these areas. There are several other programs that address auditory attention and auditory memory that we use in therapeutic intervention.
